WASHINGTON—A House panel invited a woman who has accused housing-finance official Mel Watt of sexual harassment to testify at a Thursday hearing where he is slated to speak about the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s business.
Simone Grimes, a senior FHFA employee, “has been invited to testify on Thursday pending a meeting with staff,” a spokeswoman for the House Financial Services Committee said in a statement.
Grimes has alleged Watt, the FHFA’s director, engaged in “unwelcome and unwanted sexual advances” toward her and repeatedly tied her professional advancement to his sexual interest in her. She has filed harassment and retaliation claims against Watt, seeking damages and other relief.
She is set to meet with both Democratic and Republican staff on the committee Tuesday, her lawyer said.
